InfinID SBIR Phase II Win

June 2008
InfinID Technologies, Inc. has been selected for a Small Business Innovative Research Phase II contract from the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (MRMC) to develop Ad Hoc Networked Tags (ANT) using Active RFID. The two year contract will continue supporting the development of a low cost set of active RFID tags that can be used to track medical supplies from source to destination, while at the same time monitoring the shipment for temperature, relative humidity, vibration and shock threshold violations. Efficiency and range will be achieved using an ad hoc networking scheme between the tag. The ad hoc networking scheme is based on the research of Dr. Rod Goodman, a leading expert in the field of distributed intelligent algorithms, and CTO of InfinID Technologies, Inc. He explains the advantages of the ANT tags: “In contrast to most active tag system that only support messages from tags to a central gateway unit, the unique feature of the ANT tag is its use of constrained flooding of messages between RFID tags. This provides many benefits. First, the system requires much less infrastructure in terms of interrogating readers and antennas, because tag IDs that are out of range of a reader can still be received by a reader via relay from other tags. Second, the system is much more robust in terms of tag read rates and missed tags than current systems. This is because multiple tag IDs are received by the reader via multiple diverse paths. Third, because each tag is both a transmitter and a receiver, the system can be made very secure by incorporating two-way challenge-response encryption protocols to ensure tag IDs are genuine and the system is not being spoofed.”

Unique Identification (UID) Policy Conference

October 25, 2005
As the Department of Defense (DoD) transforms the way they do business, GSA must be a strategic partner in supporting DoD. On July 29, 2003, the DoD Acting under Secretary of Defense (AT&L) issued a Memorandum entitled "Policy for Unique Identification (UID) of Tangible Items - New Equipment, Major Modifications, and Reprocurements of Equipment and Spares" that made UID mandatory for all solicitations issued on or after 1 January 2004 from a DoD activity. The Final Rule (DFARS Case 2003-D081) regarding UID, titled Unique Identification and Valuation, was released on April 22, 2005.

This key policy change by DoD may affect the way you fill orders from DoD customers. It is important to work with the DoD contracting offices to support what is considered to be a strategic imperative. To learn more about the DoD UID policy, DoD UID office would like to invite you to attend one of its conferences. Please click on the link for conference info:

DFARS Final RFID Ruling

September 14, 2005
Radio Frequency Identification (DFARS Case 2004-D011) Adds policy and a contract clause requiring contractors to affix passive radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, at the case and palletized unit load levels, when shipping certain items to certain DoD locations. Also requires contractors to electronically submit advance shipment notices to DoD, to permit association of the RFID tag data with the corresponding shipment. Applies to contracts for packaged operational rations, clothing, individual equipment, tools, personal demand items, or weapon system repair parts, that will be shipped to the Defense Distribution Depot in Susquehanna, PA, or the Defense Distribution Depot in San Joaquin, CA. Use of RFID technology will improve the visibility of DoD assets, increase the accuracy of shipment and receipt data, and permit more efficient movement of supplies within the DoD supply chain. This rule will become effective on November 14, 2005, and will be incorporated into the DFARS on that date. To get the Federal Register notice for this rule, click here.
